LINES

In May 2021, six months into my recovery after a mental breakdown, I started painting the LINE series as a way to better understand color-theory principles. Using broad brushes, I dragged bold, colorful lines across the canvas.

As I worked, I found myself getting lost in the layers of color, arranging them in different ways to explore their effects and relationships. Each stroke felt like an expression of my own inner world, a way to translate the chaos of my thoughts and emotions into something tangible. Mental recovery from depression is a lot of work. It often feels like two steps forward and one step back but taking on the burden of self-reflection allowed me to build layers of realistic optimism and self-confidence.  I offer this series as documentation of that journey.
